Albumin is the main protein found in plasma, constituting about 60 % of human plasma protein. Its main function within the human body is to regulate the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. It also acts as a carrier protein because it binds a wide range of blood components including water, cations, fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin and drugs.
