Influenza is an infectious disease most commonly referred to as flu. It is caused by RNA viruses of the Orthomyxoviridae family. There are three main types of influenza; A, B and C. Influenza B has a slower mutation rate than other types of the virus, and is not commonly found in a large range of mammals. This means an immunity is often developed at a young age and pandemics do not occur. The most common symptoms of influenza are chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache and severe coughing.
