Bulk human plasma from patients with elevated Amyloid A levels. The role of amyloid A is to transport cholesterol to the liver for excretion in the bile. It is secreted during the acute phase of inflammation and is involved in a number of inflammatory diseases, including amalyoidosis, atherosclerosis and rheumatoid atherisis. Some research has also suggested a link between amyloid A and systematic lupus erythematosus.
